The narrative draws from traditional 90s/2000s buddy comedies like Mean Girls, focusing purely on interpersonal dynamics, self-discovery through conflict, and authentic emotional messiness without any overlay of contemporary social justice themes, identity politics, or critiques of traditional norms. Casting features mostly white leads with incidental supporting diversity (e.g., Storm Reid as another freshman, Megan Thee Stallion in a cameo as a jail mate/show co-host), which feels organic to a modern college setting rather than forced or central.

No race/gender-swaps of established characters, no prominent LGBTQ+ representation or storylines, no dialogue addressing systemic issues, and no creator statements emphasizing activism or inclusion mandates. Reception highlights its entertaining, relatable YA appeal with strong comedic performances, marred only by nepotism backlash over Sadie Sandler's role, not ideological content. This pure entertainment focus, free from progressive intrusions, makes it a refreshing throwback unburdened by preachiness or agenda-driven alterations.
