Casting features a mix of white male leads (Tony Goldwyn as DA, Hugh Dancy and Reid Scott as prosecutors) alongside Maura Tierney (white female detective) and Odelya Halevi (minority female ADA), providing organic diversity reflective of modern New York without forced race- or gender-swapping or clashes with setting. Themes occasionally veer into modern social issues like AI misuse, exonerations, and workplace dynamics, but these are handled procedurally rather than as lectures.

Specific episodes draw niche criticism: E1 'Street Justice' for seemingly endorsing vigilante 'street justice' over strict letter-of-the-law prosecution, portraying ADA Maroun as overly empathetic to defendants and Price as compromising duty; E7 'Guardian' for forced defense arguments invoking racist tropes against Black characters. Reddit users label these as poor messaging prioritizing personal views over job duties, but such complaints are isolated, not dominating reception.

No creator interviews emphasize activism or DEI mandates; Dick Wolf maintains apolitical procedural focus. Audience ratings remain steady with no 'go woke go broke' backlash, indicating progressive elements are minor and incidental, not driving narrative or reception.
