They attend seminars on 'deconstructing masculinity,' navigate 'toxic masculinity,' and adapt to 'the death throes of patriarchy' as core ongoing conflicts. Season 4 escalates this with protagonists sharing an apartment to handle midlife crises through masculinity retreats, co-parenting as a 'subversive' non-romantic family model, new family dynamics, situationships, and AI girlfriends, framing traditional norms as outdated and inadequate. A season 3 subplot features a child (Iris/Jacobo) exploring gender identity by identifying as a boy before reverting, contrasted against 'misogynistic' views with progressive attitudes promoted.

Casting and characters emphasize empowered female roles and feminist perspectives without source-material constraints. Creator focus and narrative framing prioritize identity politics, critiques of patriarchy, and normalization of fluid family/identity concepts as central drivers rather than incidental. Audience reactions highlight backlash from viewers perceiving it as hitting 'exposed nerves' on masculinity, confirming the ideological embedding. These elements make progressive messaging foundational to the show's appeal and structure.
