Forgotten Island scores a moderate 4/10 as its core story centers on friendship and preserving memories through an adventure rooted in folklore, with cultural elements present but secondary to the plot.
Forgotten Island is an original DreamWorks animated adventure centered on the platonic friendship between Jo (voiced by H.E.R.) and Raissa (Liza Soberano), two high school graduates in 1990s Philippines who enter a portal to the mythical island of Nakali drawn from Filipino folklore.
The core premise revolves around preserving shared memories amid impending separation when one friend moves to the US for college, with supporting characters like Raww (Dave Franco) and antagonists such as the Manananggal (Lea Salonga) serving the adventure and memory-loss plot. Casting heavily features Filipino and Filipino-American talent including Manny Jacinto, Dolly de Leon, Jo Koy, and Lea Salonga, paired with directors Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado (Filipino-American) who explicitly drew from personal experiences and aimed to showcase Philippine mythology and culture on screen.

This is not a good movie but the central theme of friendship between 2 girls never crosses the line into a romantic relationship. The one girl is a tomboy and the other wears dresses but it stays strongly rooted in friendship. One merman character wears starfish nipple covers which is just weird and there are no strong male characters.
As others have said, a glance at the cover is all one needs to come to thin conclusion.
Dont watch this movie! Its atrocious and not good for children! Read the metacritic user reviews!!!
One look at character design is all you need to know.
True. This should be an instant 10
