For anyone who has read the book, this series is extremely faithful to it. I've seen people complaining about Cathy being "feminist" or a "girlboss" and it's just not true. Cathy was always and is still shown to be a terrible person. <spoilers start here> She does all the evil actions she commits in the book. They only humanity you really see her show is toward her adult sons, which was only slightly less transparent in the book (she watched Aron fondly from afar and left him money, here in the series she also tears up when meeting him). Cathy uses all the men in her life and the women too. She cares about no one but herself. When Adam confronts her after 10 years he comes off as the mature and moral one, she comes off as selfish and insecure. She proclaims men don't need to tell her what to do only to realize she is talking to a voice in her head, meaning she's paranoid, her own worst enemy. If anything this series is antithetical to the girlboss trope. I highly recommend.
