The series struggles with an unbalanced narrative tone and heavy-handed writing, where male characters are frequently undermined and the female lead often feels like an infallible "Mary Sue" with few tangible flaws. The character designs also feel polarizing; the reliance on hyper-muscular archetypes for female enforcers and the distinct physical redesigns given to legacy characters like Carmen Sandiego often clash with traditional expectations of the franchise.
