Methodology: Each score synthesizes audience discourse, critic and aggregator reception, and press coverage — weighed against the work itself, not any single source.
No links to Sweet Baby Inc. or explicit DEI mandates from Motive or EA; the project is presented as a faithful remake with marketing focused on gameplay and visuals rather than progressive credentials.

In the remake, suddenly almost every poster became an exercise in meeting quotas. A white or Asian man in an ad? Swapped for a Black man. Not because the story called for it, nor because it made a narrative difference. Simply because someone in production decided the original visuals "lacked representation." That isn't an update; it’s an ideological rewriting of a background detail that nobody asked for. The same pattern appears in the female character designs. In the original, Kendra had the body of a curvy adult woman. In the remake, they flattened and reduced her, making her silhouette more neutral and her clothing more boxy. Even on background posters, bust sizes were reduced. A magazine featuring a woman in a bikini? Removed. All in the name of avoiding "sexualization." The result: the women became less attractive.
Not more realistic just less desirable and more aligned with the current standard of a "body that’s okay as long as it doesn't offend the inclusion department." Nicole is the most glaring example. In the original, she was Isaac’s girlfriend, with a youthful appearance. In the remake, they aggressively aged her. They cast an older actress and exaggerated the aging process to the point where it looks like Isaac is trying to rescue his aunt. The official justification is "age realism." Yet, that same criterion isn't applied with equal rigor to everyone else. None of this improves the horror, the tension, or the story. These are cosmetic changes made for virtue signaling. The game’s combat and atmosphere remain excellent despite these decisions, not because of them. And that is precisely what’s so irritating: a remake that should have respected the original’s visual identity and setting decided to use the *Ishimura* as a billboard for DEI.
