This casting choice forms the core premise and drives the season arcs, with plotlines revolving around the Van Helsing women, their amulet, and battles against the entity. The approach prioritizes gender-flipped leads over fidelity to the source material, inserting progressive casting as a foundational element rather than an organic addition. The season escalates female-centric elements through Violet (Keeya King), Jack (Nicole Muñoz), Ivory, and the all-female Sisterhood vampire faction, whose rituals—including forced male castration for membership—drew explicit criticism as radical feminist messaging and man-hating rhetoric.

The Dark One (Tricia Helfer) represents a gender-flipped Dracula, with prominent LGBTQ subplots noted in audience reviews alongside diverse female action leads and "woman power" framing in casting and season arcs. These elements function as intrusive ideological overlays that compromise the entertainment value by centering extremism and identity politics over narrative coherence.
