Casting includes organic diversity fitting the LAPD setting, such as CCH Pounder's Claudette Wyms as a capable Black female detective and Benito Martinez's David Aceveda as a Hispanic political operator, but these characters serve plot functions rather than representing DEI mandates or critiques of systemic oppression. Creator Shawn Ryan emphasized gritty, subversive storytelling in interviews, with no activist intent expressed.

Academic analysis notes the show superficially appears multicultural yet reinforces traditional white male authority structures, underscoring its conservative undercurrent. Audience reception and reviews highlight its envelope-pushing violence and machismo without any backlash or praise tied to progressive themes, confirming the absence of ideological centrality.
