Traditional le Carré espionage themes dominate—betrayal, intrigue, mercenaries—with no explicit social justice lectures, critiques of systemic issues, patriarchy, or identity politics driving the narrative. Subtle hints of modern sexual fluidity and homoerotic tension are present but incidental and not focal points or tied to activism.

Creator David Farr emphasizes geopolitical upheaval and the spy thriller spirit in interviews, with no stated intent around inclusion mandates or challenging norms. Reception is solid from critics (90% RT) focusing on thriller quality, while audience scores are mixed (64% RT) due to pacing and comparisons to Season 1, with only isolated complaints like one X user decrying 'woke characterisation' via working-class accents, but no widespread backlash, DEI accusations, or 'go woke go broke' narrative.
