The primary exception is Episode 6, 'Eracism,' where young Adam attempts a school film project on racism inspired by Do the Right Thing, consulting Asian and Black classmates who point out local instances, leading to his realization of his sheltered privilege; this drew sharp audience backlash as forced 2020-era pandering shoehorned into the 1980s setting, labeled 'woke BS' that clashed with the show's apolitical tone. No other episodes feature progressive themes like identity politics, LGBTQ+ representation, gender critiques, or systemic oppression narratives.

Casting remains consistent with the original mostly white Jewish family ensemble, featuring no DEI-driven changes, race/gender-swapping, or added intersectional elements. Creator intent stays true to personal nostalgia without activist statements for this season, and overall reception praises the entertainment value while critiquing that one outlier as awkwardly preachy. This incidental blip does not influence character arcs, premise, or emotional core, preserving the show's traditional charm.
