Detailed Analysis
"R.J. Decker" is a whimsical crime procedural following ex-con private investigator R.J.
Decker as he solves quirky Florida mysteries, adapted from Carl Hiaasen's novel with humor and entertainment at its core. The show incorporates progressive elements like prominent LGBTQ+ representation—protagonist's ex-girlfriend is now married to a female detective, forming a lesbian couple central to his living situation and investigations—alongside diverse casting such as a Latina lead, altering the source material to include modern identity politics without driving the premise. Its 6/10 woke score reflects these noticeable but non-preachy inclusions that spark audience backlash for feeling forced, while prioritizing fun procedural storytelling over overt messaging.
Methodology: Each score synthesizes audience discourse, critic and aggregator reception, and press coverage — weighed against the work itself, not any single source.
