Cosima Niehaus's lesbian relationship with Delphine Cormier drives significant Season 2 drama, including trust issues, Delphine's Dyad infiltration, and Cosima's illness treatment decisions tied to their romance. The season introduces Tony Sawicki, a transgender male clone (born Antoinette), in episode 8 'Variable and Full of Perturbation,' where his one-episode storyline involves Felix and clone awareness, explicitly framed by creators as advancing trans visibility.

Tatiana Maslany has stated pride in the show's diversity treatment of sexuality, calling it 'very political.' Supporting cast includes Jordan Gavaris as openly gay Felix. These elements extend to feminist autonomy themes against corporate exploitation of female clones, but remain secondary to Sarah's daughter rescue and Rachel conflicts.

Reception at the time praised the rep as groundbreaking rather than controversial, with no major backlash signals. The integration elevates identity as a narrative layer beyond organic character traits.
