The primary progressive element is a single-episode subplot in 'Ruby Slippers' establishing a romantic relationship between established character Ruby and new character Dorothy, complete with true love's kiss. This adds LGBTQ+ representation as a minor side story without altering the season's core premise of battling darkness and saving loved ones.

Casting remains consistent with prior seasons and source fairy-tale material, with no race- or gender-swapping of established figures. No creator statements emphasize activism, systemic critiques, or identity politics as central themes.

Audience reactions note the romance as either welcome inclusion or tokenism, but it does not drive narrative, character arcs, or emotional core. Overall, progressive elements stay incidental and do not compromise the show's escapist fairy-tale focus.
