These influence multiple character arcs and plots, such as Mitchell's career setbacks aided ineptly by Cam, and gender role explorations like Claire assuming control of Jay's closet business while Phil embraces nurturing ducklings that imprint on Claire. Diverse family structures are normalized through humor, with episodes touching on teen dating, infidelity reveals (Haley and Andy), and preschool choices highlighting class differences.

However, integration feels organic to the mockumentary comedy format, without unjustified changes, explicit social justice lectures, DEI-driven casting shifts (only baby Joe recast for cuteness, not identity), or creator-stated activist intent for the season. Progressive aspects enhance the inclusive family portrait without dominating or compromising the entertainment value.
