The series deliberately highlights an inclusive cast and centers progressive themes through character arcs, most notably the normalized lesbian/bisexual romance between Karolina Dean and Nico Minoru, which includes substantial romantic development, emotional stakes, and even an on-screen same-sex wedding. Additional elements include feminist and social-justice-warrior portrayals, such as Gert's anti-patriarchy advocacy, alongside repeated emphasis on breaking gender and social norms.

These identity-focused subplots and representation choices shape multiple storylines across seasons without overtaking the core kids-versus-villain-parents adventure premise. The show's consistent 6/10 rating reflects this noticeable but secondary integration of such messaging.
