Detailed Analysis
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 17 maintains the series' long-standing format as a dark, misanthropic satire centered on five irredeemable, selfish degenerates scheming at Paddy's Pub.
The core cast remains unchanged with no race, gender, or sexuality swaps to established characters. Episodes parody modern television formats including corporate PR 'thought leadership' sessions that mock sanitized, inoffensive content and crossovers that subvert other shows rather than endorse their framing.
Recurring elements like Mac's established gay identity appear in satirical contexts but do not drive the season's premise or serve as activist messaging. The show's approach consistently ridicules all sides, including progressive pieties, without centering identity politics, systemic critiques, or DEI mandates as foundational themes.
Key Factors
- Unchanged core cast and premise focused on amoral scheming
- Satirical parodies of corporate wokeness and modern TV rather than endorsement
- Incidental continuation of prior character traits like Mac's sexuality without new activist framing or centrality
Methodology: Each score synthesizes audience discourse, critic and aggregator reception, and press coverage — weighed against the work itself, not any single source.
