Episodes like 'The Gang Turns Black' deploy race-swap tropes purely for absurd musical comedy and character stupidity, with no genuine social justice resolution or moralizing. 'Hero or Hate Crime?' features Mac's self-interested coming-out for lottery winnings, framed as another scheme rather than affirmation or exploration of identity. Casting stays unchanged with the established all-white main ensemble and no new diverse characters introduced for representational purposes.

Themes touch on racism, homophobia, and PR scandals (Wolf Cola/Boko Haram) but always through the gang's incompetent, self-serving lens that mocks everyone equally without endorsing systemic critiques or identity politics. No creator statements indicate activist intent; the season prioritizes chaotic bar antics and slapstick over any ideological framing. Minor elements like corrected slurs or sexuality subplots remain incidental to the comedy and do not alter the premise or drive emotional arcs.
