The season's major emotional arc centers on the toxic, class-divided romance between Blitzo and Stolas, shifting focus from the core assassination business premise toward queer relationship drama, as noted in fan complaints about prioritizing 'yaoi' dynamics over ensemble misadventures. Creator Vivziepop emphasizes interpersonal relationships, with official Pride Month imagery assigning queer flags to numerous characters, normalizing non-traditional sexualities and identities in the hellish setting.

Casting includes diverse voice actors like Vivian Nixon as Millie, but no clashes with source material or race/gender-swaps of established characters. While the show avoids explicit lectures on systemic oppression or identity politics, the centrality of queer romance to Season 2's narrative progression places progressive elements at a noticeable to significant level without overwhelming the black comedy framework or prompting widespread 'woke' backlash.
