The show's diverse casting, including non-white voice actors like Stephanie Beatriz, Kimiko Glenn, and Keith David, enforces DEI optics in a fantasy setting without narrative necessity, while themes pit Hell's 'oppressed' sinners against Heaven's judgmental extermination force, framing religious authority as systemic oppression ripe for critique. Creator Vivziepop's openly queer perspective infuses casual normalization of non-traditional sexualities across the cast, with Alastor ace-coded and multiple demons in queer dynamics, making identity politics a persistent undercurrent. These intrusions compromise the show's comedic redemption premise by injecting identity-driven arcs and representation mandates that dilute plot momentum and character consistency, as evidenced by widespread S2 backlash over shallow development and tonal inconsistency, prioritizing activist signaling over cohesive storytelling.
