Abortion is prominently addressed via the 'Letters to a Child Never Born' storyline tied to a teen pregnancy subplot, pushing pro-choice undertones in a conservative 1970s Colombian setting. The 'Sexual Revolution' episode highlights LGBTQ representation, building on Season 1's same-sex encounters and character arcs like Pabón's implied gay experiences and tensions, normalizing non-traditional sexualities in an all-boys school context that inherently challenges traditional masculinity.

Political messaging includes class struggles and neoliberal critiques from Engels-inspired titles, alongside school debates on feminism that some viewers criticized as heavy-handed. Eva's role as a gender trailblazer centralizes identity politics and norm-breaking, influencing character growth and emotional arcs like Camilo's navigation of fatherhood and tolerance. While the core romance persists, these elements dominate subplots and thematic structure, compromising pure entertainment with ideological lectures disguised as literary depth, evident in Reddit backlash decrying the feminism and abortion discussions as a 'bust.' No overt creator activism found, but production choices prioritize progressive discourse over unadulterated teen drama.
