They decided once more to take every instance of morbidity from a cult movie finale. After poor Dahmer and poor Lizzie we now have the poor Jason the misunderstood story.
Disgusting, stupid, woke piece of s*t for brainless A24 fans. I’ve watched three episodes, and I’m probably passing on the rest. Since the show is set in the 70s, it's packed with modern political commentary. The only good and smart character here is a black sheriff who is slightly at odds with the white community, while his sister wastes her talent writing about pumpkins at the local newspaper because 'she’s a black woman.' Every single white man here is portrayed as either an idiot, a pervert, a harmless lunatic, or a dangerous lunatic. Almost everyone makes sexist remarks and treats women as inferior. The positive characters - if men - are all black or from the hispanic community, etc., etc. I could go on forever. And that's only after 3 episodes!

Also: Variety – „Crystal Lake" Review, A. Tinubu, 13.10.2026: "Crystal Lake" is grisly and gory, but it's not a horror series. Though it boasts plenty of stomach-turning moments, it works much more as a psychological thriller, centering women's rage and the perils of patriarchy.
