Main character Kelsey Pokoly is explicitly confirmed as lesbian in the episode 'Fire & Ice,' with a subplot centering her romantic anxiety and reciprocated feelings for another girl, Stacks, turning innocent friendships into identity-focused narratives. Non-binary character Angel José routinely uses they/them pronouns and runs a daycare, normalizing gender fluidity concepts for preschool-aged viewers.

The cast is predominantly people of color, with Craig as a Black lead, hailed in reception as a 'modern classic of diverse representation' that prioritizes DEI checkboxes over organic storytelling. Additional queer characters like gay George, Raj, and lesbian couples who kiss further saturate the show.

These intrusions manifest as lectures on acceptance and identity amid adventures, drawing backlash on no-watch lists for LGBTQ normalization, Reddit complaints of TikTok-fueled 'woke pandering,' and X posts decrying homophobic overtones in kids' media. Creator intent shines through awards for inclusion and praise for 'challenging norms,' compromising the entertainment by injecting adult social justice activism into formative content, risking indoctrination over fun.
