Casting features an organically diverse ensemble including a Black female lab director (Cam), a mixed-race artist (Angela), and rotating interns of various backgrounds, which blends seamlessly into the workplace setting without narrative emphasis or clashes with the story. Minor progressive elements appear incidentally: Angela's bisexuality is confirmed through a brief, naturalistic relationship with her ex-girlfriend Roxie across a couple of episodes, and one case-of-the-week ('The He in the She') involves a transgender murder victim in a sports context, handled in a dated 2008 manner with stereotypes rather than advocacy.

These do not drive plots, character arcs, or themes, serving instead as episodic flavor amid mysteries, science, and romance. No creator statements push activism, no forced diversity alterations, and no notable backlash decrying 'woke' intrusions—praised instead for entertaining escapism free of heavy-handed messaging.
