Japanese voice cast remains unchanged with original actors like Masakazu Morita as Ichigo, preserving authentic character portrayals. No race/gender-swapping, no identity politics driving plots, no lectures on systemic oppression, patriarchy, or traditional norms—storytelling prioritizes entertainment, friendships, and rivalries in a traditional supernatural framework.

A peripheral English dub controversy involved an initial recast of Yoruichi (a dark-skinned character) with a diverse hire, sparking backlash that reinstated the original VA, highlighting audience rejection of forced DEI rather than endorsement. Villainous characters like Giselle have controversial queer-coded elements from the manga (negative stereotypes, censored in anime), but these are incidental, not celebratory or central to the premise.

Creator Tite Kubo shows no activist intent. Reception celebrates it as a triumphant anime comeback focused purely on spectacle and story, free from political distractions.
