The narrative draws directly from Volker Kutscher's novels and historical events like political violence, rearmament plots, and economic collapse, with creators explicitly aiming to highlight overlooked Weimar unrest rather than impose contemporary framing. Casting features period-appropriate German actors such as Volker Bruch and Liv Lisa Fries in lead roles, with no race- or gender-swapping of established characters or anachronistic diversity mandates.

Incidental elements like cabaret scenes reflecting 1920s Berlin's actual nightlife or Charlotte's ambition as a female investigator are justified by the era's documented social changes and the story's own logic, not activist messaging. No creator statements emphasize inclusion mandates or critiques of traditional norms beyond historical depiction.
