Casting features the original Japanese voice actors with no DEI-driven changes, race-swapping, or forced diversity clashing with the source material. Themes explore oppression and nationalism from multiple perspectives—Eldians as both victims and perpetrators—eschewing one-sided systemic injustice narratives or identity politics lectures.

Subtle elements like Ymir and Historia's past queer relationship or Hange's ambiguous gender presentation exist as incidental backstory from the manga, never becoming focal points, character arcs, or emotional drivers in Season 4. Creator Hajime Isayama's intent leans toward Japanese nationalist undertones, drawing controversies for alleged fascist sympathies rather than woke activism.

Audience reception praises the storytelling's neutrality and maturity, with backlash targeting perceived right-wing messaging, not 'go woke go broke' complaints. This purity of focus on universal human struggles and thrilling narrative makes it a standout example of entertainment unmarred by social justice intrusions.
