This messaging drives the entire narrative, character arcs, and emotional payoff, with women pitted against each other in a brutal competition for male validation, critiquing traditional norms of femininity, marriage, and beauty as violent capitalist enterprises. Subtle but notable LGBTQ+ elements appear through a lesbian-coded relationship between Elvira and her stepsister Alma (Cinderella), culminating in hints of queer romance that subvert the hetero premise, positioning non-traditional identities as redemptive.

Director Emilie Blichfeldt's stated intent to reframe the story as 'beauty horror' prioritizes activist commentary on gender politics, compromising the film's potential as unadulterated horror-comedy entertainment by making ideology the foundational driver rather than incidental flavor. While executed with shock value that elicits strong reactions, the pervasive progressive framing alienates traditional storytelling purity, turning a subversive twist into a cautionary lecture on identity-based victimhood.
