The plot follows Max the terrier and new arrival Duke as they navigate conflicts with an underground group of abandoned animals led by a rabbit, but these elements serve pure entertainment and friendship themes without any framing around identity, systemic issues, or social justice. Voice casting features a mix of actors including Kevin Hart, but all characters are original animal creations with no race- or gender-swapping of established figures, and diversity does not drive narrative or subplots.

No LGBTQ representation, critiques of traditional norms, or activist intent appears in the storytelling or creator statements. Minor audience notes on the 'revolution' subplot as a loose analogy are incidental and quickly resolved in favor of happy adoption endings, fitting traditional storytelling rather than ideological messaging. As children's media, the absence of any progressive elements keeps the score minimal.
