Wokeometer focuses on ideological content rather than traditional ratings (violence, language, etc.). Shazam! Fury of the Gods is rated PG-13. For a full picture, combine our woke analysis with the age rating to decide if it's right for your family.
We evaluate media across multiple ideological categories on a 0–10 scale. Scores of 0–3 mean story-first, 4–6 have moderate elements, and 7–10 flag heavily agenda-driven content.
The film centers on Billy Batson and his established foster siblings battling the original Daughters of Atlas (Hespera, Kalypso, and Anthea) over a stolen staff and stolen powers, with core themes of found family, teamwork, and self-doubt driving the action-comedy plot.
Progressive elements appear in the foregrounding of Pedro Peña's sexuality: the writer Henry Gayden explicitly stated he fought to make Pedro's gay identity more prominent than the subtle hint in the first film, resulting in an on-screen coming-out moment that multiple reviews flag as a deliberate inclusion. The Shazam family's multi-ethnic foster sibling roster (including characters played by Ross Butler, Meagan Good, and others) continues from the prior movie as organic to the premise rather than new forced casting. The three villain goddesses feature diverse actresses (Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu, Rachel Zegler) in original roles drawn from mythology, with no evidence of source-character race or gender swaps.
Methodology: Each score synthesizes audience discourse, critic and aggregator reception, and press coverage — weighed against the work itself, not any single source.
