The core premise centers on amnesiac outlaw Jake Lonergan (Daniel Craig) allying with cattleman Woodrow Dolarhyde (Harrison Ford) and the mysterious Ella Swenson (Olivia Wilde) to battle alien invaders, drawing in townspeople, outlaws, and Apache warriors for a survival showdown. Ella functions as a capable alien ally who speaks Apache, survives fire, and ultimately sacrifices herself to destroy the enemy ship by detonating Lonergan's bracelet—her role stems directly from the sci-fi plot rather than any modern social commentary. Nat Colorado (Adam Beach), Dolarhyde's half-Apache right-hand man, joins the posse and dies heroically protecting his boss, fitting the 1870s Arizona setting without any forced or anachronistic emphasis.
