This queer romance is not incidental but the overwhelming focus, with extensive explicit sex scenes comprising much of the runtime, framed through an emphasized 'female gaze' by director April Mullen and an all-female crew touted as a boundary-pushing diversity milestone in filmmaking. Such elements embed progressive identity politics deeply, prioritizing normalization and celebration of same-sex attraction over substantive storytelling, resulting in widespread critiques of a flimsy, trope-laden plot that sacrifices character development and narrative coherence for ideological representation.

Creator intent highlights activist-adjacent goals like authentic queer intimacy and women-only production, turning the film into a vehicle for LGBTQ+ visibility that compromises entertainment value with repetitive eroticism lacking broader appeal or depth. Audience reception in queer circles praises the sex but often dismisses the story as lazy, underscoring how the progressive centering alienates general viewers without bolstering quality.
