Divinity: Original Sin 2 keeps its fantasy lore and player-driven quests front and center with no activist framing or forced messaging, delivering safe neutral entertainment at a 3/10 woke score.
Divinity: Original Sin 2 - Definitive Edition centers on a classic high-fantasy premise of source magic, divine ascension, Voidwoken threats, and personal origin quests in the world of Rivellon.
Character creation and origins feature fantasy races with backstories rooted in in-universe lore such as exile for the Red Prince, slavery to lizard masters for Sebille, demonic possession for Lohse, and rebellion against a dwarf queen for Beast. These elements react to player choices organically without modern activist framing or critiques of real-world systems.
The game's 2017 release and absence of developer DEI statements or consultancy involvement further distance it from later industry trends that inject identity politics into core narratives. The romance system permits any companion—Red Prince, Ifan, Sebille, Lohse, Fane, or Beast—regardless of player gender or race through playersexual mechanics, yet these relationships stay strictly optional side content that does not alter main quests or thematic focus. This approach keeps progressive elements minimal and non-central, preserving the title's emphasis on player-driven storytelling and tactical combat over ideological messaging. Audience reception has remained steady without notable critic-audience gaps tied to social issues, reflecting the game's success in delivering unforced fantasy escapism.
Methodology: Each score synthesizes audience discourse, critic and aggregator reception, and press coverage — weighed against the work itself, not any single source.
No developer statements, studio DEI initiatives, or ESG-driven marketing; the game predates widespread industry trends toward progressive credential emphasis.

Score "3" is fair even though I was not sure between 2 and 3. The game has some funny romance dialogues, but it should not bother you as they are extremely rare side quests that you won't even notice during a 100-hours campaign. Also, you will encounter scenes of tortures, occult rituals and satanic symbols which are present but thankfully are not "too much" compared to the most recent Divinity trailer that Larian announced
