Days Gone stays laser-focused on its gritty survival story and gruff male lead with zero DEI mandates or activist messaging, earning a low 1/10 woke score as pure, politics-free entertainment.
Days Gone features a traditional post-apocalyptic survival story centered on a gruff white male biker protagonist, Deacon St. John, focused on redemption, loyalty, and fighting hordes in a broken world.
There is no evidence of DEI consultancy involvement, developer activist statements, forced diversity mandates, gender/race-swapping, pronoun normalization, or critiques of traditional norms, patriarchy, or systemic issues. A single lesbian couple exists as minor background characters with no narrative centrality or activist framing.
The director publicly blamed 'woke reviewers' for low critic scores due to objections over a scene of the protagonist admiring his date's appearance, highlighting the game's resistance to progressive expectations rather than embrace of them. Critic scores (around 71 on Metacritic) lag significantly behind strong audience scores (8.5+), with the gap attributed to identity politics objections rather than any ideological promotion in the game itself. Incidental elements like the lesbian pair are organic to the setting and do not influence themes, casting, or premise.
Methodology: Each score synthesizes audience discourse, critic and aggregator reception, and press coverage — weighed against the work itself, not any single source.

Suggests a lesbian couple, with one of set of DEI dialog from Colonel Matthew Garret. Easy to miss
it's good pretty and sad Sony abandoned it
Misunderstood by the people due to it's buggy launch but since the fixed, Days Gone has to be one of the best exclusives from sony, the story is good and emotional (sure rikki and Addy are lesbians but they're not that major in the story and can be ignored) , the gameplay is fun and the zombies (or Freakers if you will) are actually scary at times with horses being a nightmare at times, this is a strong recommend if you're a fan of Zombie games.
